Block Printing is a traditional art of printing patterns on fabrics with block technology. Artisan partners sketch and carve blocks of teak wood, dip them in dye or ink and stamp clothes with them to create symmetrical patterns.
The design is first traced and transferred onto wooden blocks by the master craftsman, who engraves the block to create a stamp. Once stamped, the garment is left to dry in the sun followed by a treatment for fixation and fastness of colours.
Block printing involves bright big motifs stained beautifully on rugs, dhotis and sarees.
